The Yard

Today when I got home from work, the sun came out and it felt warm and beautiful outside and I was suddenly overcome with the urge to do some yard work.  I grabbed a rake, went outside and started scraping.  Our house hadn't been lived in in a year and clearly the yard hadn't been touched in that time either.

A good year's worth of leaves coated every inch of the garden areas. It's astounding how big a pile you can make from a few square feet of space.  Here's one.  It's about the size of a twin mattress and about a foot deep.

Then there was also this one.  That's about three feet deep.

Oh but the things I started to find once I got to clearing.  The earthworms the size of my index finger quickly delved back into the mud from whence they came, but lots of these guys stuck around.

These guys made a hastier escape but I managed to shoot one.

Ew.  Luckily there were lots of pretty things too.  Like more crocuses.

And friends, I think these might be tulips.

I'm not really sure, but I'm hoping!  I also found marbles.  Marbles allllllll over the place.

There is a huge bucket of them in the shed and I'd been wondering what the heck they were for.  Landscaping, as it turns out.  Weird.

Anyhoo, though I ended up only getting about a quarter of the yard done before the sun got covered up and the temperature plummeted, I'm pleased with the progress I made.  Yard work is WAY easier than cabinets!

Getting there!  I simply can not wait to set up a little fire place out there and sit with BF and a glass of wine and enjoy our lovely little yard!

Till next time!
